Xbox Series X: Is it Worth it?

Xbox Series X: Is it Worth it?

After months of silence from Microsoft, the long awaited new Xbox has finally been unveiled. Code named Project Scorpio, the new console will be known as Series X. It has been confirmed that the Xbox Series X will make its debut during the 2020 holiday season. Every Xbox fan is dying to know what’s so special about this version and was it worth the wait. Now not much is known, but these are some things about the Xbox Series X that gamers might find interesting.

The Xbox Series X is designed to look like a computer tower, however, it can lay flat down so you can choose the position you wish to have the console. There will be 2 different versions released. A digital version code named Lockhart (there is no official name as of yet) will have no disc tray and only play downloadable content. The other version will be the standard console with a disc tray so you can still play physical copies of a game. The aesthetics won’t be anything special. As of right now, it will only be released in a black matte finish and there’s no announcement of any future colors being released. Of course that will change once they start releasing special editions of the console.

The basic design of the controller is somewhat similar to that of the Xbox One with a few differences. The shape has been altered slightly to accommodate different hand sizes. They added a Share button in the middle of the controller which allows players to share video clips and screenshots automatically to other players. The D-pad design is now the same one used on the Elite Series 2 controller. This should make gameplay smoother because your thumb can roll and glide effortlessly on the D-pad.

Two of the must haves every gamer needs in their consoles is an abundance of speed and power. The Xbox Series X is definitely built with these things in mind. The new system will be using a custom AMD Zen 2 and RDNA architecture giving it 4 times the processing power. It will have the capability to run at 8k and 120 FPS (Frames Per Second) along with other amazing features. Among these features are ray tracing for realistic lighting, variable rate shading for more efficient graphics processing, and a solid state drive for faster loading times.

The issues many gamers had with the original Xbox One is the fact that it didn’t have backwards compatibility. After hearing the constant complaints from consumers, Microsoft eventually released a patch for the Xbox One to have the capability to play Xbox 360 games, but this shouldn’t have been an issue from the beginning. This time around, Microsoft made sure the Xbox Series X accommodates the existing Xbox One software, games, accessories, achievements, and saves.

With all this hype surrounding the Xbox Series X, Microsoft still hasn’t revealed  what the base price will be. There has been speculation that the console will start at $600 which is reasonable for what you’re getting. The issue is if the initial price is higher than $600, Microsoft may have a difficult time selling as many units as they anticipate. When the holiday season of 2020 hits, we will see how affordable the Xbox Series X will be. This much anticipated game has Xbox fans hanging on the edge of their seat. Hopefully it lives up to all the hype Microsoft and the gaming industry has given it.

In my opinion I would not buy a device without knowing exactly what you are getting. Now as for myself, I will be getting the XBOX after about a year just because I like to see reviews and make sure that there are no kinks or issues in the system. As for anyone else you can feel free to purchase it on your own merits.
