All in all, this year’s New York Comic Con left me feeling underwhelmed. I felt like I had to spend more money to get my money’s worth and that’s never a good feeling. I met some cool people for sure, but now it’s feeling routine. Maybe I’ve just been going too long, or maybe next year just needs something special to blow my mind out of the water. Only time will tell.
These conventions are supposed to be fun, they’re supposed to be a holiday for me to celebrate everything we love about pop culture, yet for the most part, Sunday’s 2019’s New York Comic Con was an absolute nightmare. Honestly, it makes me question whether or not it’s worth returning next year in 2020….
This time I decided to write about the magic and awesomeness of how pop culture has blended into the mainstream of society. I decided to do this after I saw something that caught my attention on Thursday. And because of what I saw, I now feel that pop culture has fully integrated into the mainstream of society….
Summer 2019 kicked off as Brooklyn held its first Comic Con at the Brooklyn Expo Center at 72 Noble St. in Brooklyn, NYC. As its first Comic and Cosplay event, the entrance line was jammed packed with attendees far and wide trying to get into the building. Upon entering, I knew this was the start of something epic!!!
Saturday’s Awesome Con 2019, was a great experience in that this con provided a diverse scene of cosplay, eccentric vendors and artists. I consider this one of the best events in pop culture for the DC area and a great start in fighting inequality in the pop culture industry. Leftfield media nailed it with this con as they attempted to highlight diversity in all its many forms and succeeded in the process. This convention showcased the best and brightest in pop culture as this con had the intent of making everyone comfortable in their own skin.
For Saturday’s edition, I had to write this as a prequel because there is too much to say. So rather than kill myself as the con is coming to an end, I will just put out a prequel that expresses my thoughts here.
Washington, DC’s premiere con is immense as participants from all over the Northern and Southern States gather to attend the pop culture event of the Spring. A 3.5-hour drive through the sporadic rainstorms in the states of New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Washington District of Columbia brought Region 99 to the doorways of Awesome Con D.C. and it did not disappoint….
Sorry for the delay!!! Emerald City Comic Con was such a wonderful experience, I needed to make sure that I noted everything in my experience. I’m happy to say that I’ve been to a Comic Con on the opposite side of the US and this experience has now made me want to go to Comic Cons all over the world. For anyone who hasn’t attended ECCC , I would highly recommend it. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.
Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle, Washington was such a breath of fresh air away from the east coast cons. This con, unlike many others was very accepting as an amalgamation of different genders, sexualities, races, and open expression was able to reveal themselves in cosplay, art and panel discussions....
As you may know by now, I’ve been to many conventions across the east coast, occasionally traveling a few cities away or even one state over to attend them. Yet, this past weekend, I was given the opportunity to report on a convention on the opposite side of the country: Emerald City Comic Con, out in the tech capital of the country: Seattle, Washington. The weekend was absolutely packed with wall to wall excitement and surprises, and I’m here to give you the scoop on each and every one of them here; From an animator’s perspective!!!
