BTS has taken the world by storm and with impending enlistment, their meteoric rise to fame may come to a sudden halt. At the moment, I don’t want to think about this imminent doom and dread. I’d rather bask in the glory that is BTS and everything that has to do with them.
At New York Comic Con 2018, I was in a panel getting a sneak preview of The Reign of the Supermen, so I was pretty stoked to see the movie before it dropped on DVD. As a fan of DC cartoons and comic book history, I knew that Superman died, but is then brought back to life due to shenanigans. If I had not seen The Death of Superman I would have been completely lost during The Reign of the Supermen had I watched it without prior context. It was a cool experience to see these films as a person who had never been too much into Superman and because I saw them in unison, my view of Superman forever changed…
At the early screening I attended, every single person there was in stitches at every joke this film made. Not only that, but the film inspired genuine awe from children in the audience, with reverent whispers of “Wow…” when Shazam first took flight. I honestly cannot remember the last time any superhero film, let alone a DC one, inspired that much amazement. This is what DC was always supposed to be – characters we aspire to be, ones beyond us yet ones with values that we can uphold ourselves…
There is this unbelievably stupid myth that Brie Larson is “anti-men”, specifically, “anti-white-men’. That sentence is so stupid it hurt typing it. Brie Larson has a history of dating men, many of which are white, so either she's a supreme hypocrite in her Against White Male (AWM) agenda OR she doesn't hate people based off of the color of their skin or their gender and is fighting for fairness and inclusion within a system she finds lacking….I propose the latter!!!
For years there has been a demand for the first female Doctor. That wish was granted when Jodie Whittaker was declared the new Doctor. Many fans were not receptive of this decision and people said the show was now ruined because the Doctor was now a woman. Millions of other fans thought this was the moment of a lifetime…
December 2018 released the prequel to the Transformers’ franchise, Bumblebee. My only concern with this movie was that this was going to be another ‘style over substance’ film with too many transformers, little plot and character development, and scantly clad females…. I was wrong.
From the trailers I saw and how cool the character has been portrayed over the last few years, I was pretty excited to see this movie. I had to rant about how cool Aquaman is because it’s the truth, and the movie does reflect this awesome new Aquaman for a wider audience. A great end for 2018’s DC Extended Universe.
A year ago, when the first teaser trailer for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse dropped, I admit I wasn’t sure how to feel. When I heard that My Hero One’s Justice came out for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC, I just had to jump on the opportunity to write about this little gem. I’ve been hooked on the series that follows young Izuku Midoriya and his super-powered classmates on their journey to become the next generation of heroes. So when I heard that the anime was getting a feature film, and it would be playing in theaters near me, I absolutely jumped at the chance. Josh Brolin is quite possibly the most awesome villain/superhero actor to play a character or series of characters in the Marvel cinematic enterprise. The funny thing about him is that his first superhero movie was with the DC Universe so in a way, we wouldn’t have received these great Marvel blockbusters if not for Warner Bros….
I don’t regret seeing this movie at all. It’s a very fun and interesting look into Han Solo’s past, and while it’s a story that didn’t need to be told, I’m glad that it exists. It’s a solid foundation for Han’s early adventures, and leaves the door open for more…
So there I was, having just seen Deadpool 2, standing outside discussing what we thought of it, but with one exception. My father was in the group. He wasn't chaperoning, I'm a grown ass man, and I hadn't dragged him along, he just really wanted to come. He's not a comic guy and he doesn't really care about Marvel or DC movies all that much, he doesn’t even really understand most of it. He told me his favorite part of the movie was the advertising. I had to figure out exactly what had happened here.
Black Panther and Thor: Ragnarok have knocked it out the park with story, character development, action, and comedy. Thor: Ragnarok brought new life to Thor on the big screen, and Black Panther has shown Hollywood an all-black cast can break records at the box office. Infinity War has done something unique that only Marvel has pulled off successfully. It made me see a movie twice in one day!!!
Thanos is unlike any other Marvel Cinematic Universe villain we’ve ever seen. This is the first time in the MCU we’ve actually seen the villain win and with this victory, Thanos didn’t become a minimal part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he became the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
