Some of my favorite video game characters actually tend to be Black or African American and I wanted to talk about four of them, why I like them, their background, and possibly, how they inspire and impact me.

Scott Pilgrim VS. The World: The Game is, in my opinion, one of the greatest beat-em-up games ever made. It follows the same plot of the 2010 film, but more so than that, it’s an adaptation of the original comics, with expressive, detailed pixel art throughout every level and character sprite. This game is a profound revisit to my childhood.
In my opinion, the original Devil May Cry 5 was my favorite game of 2019 and arguably my favorite Devil May Cry game of the series. The graphics were gorgeous, despite taking a more grounded tone in the display. The music and sound effects were phenomenal, and the battle themes for the playable characters rocked…..but with DMC5: SE, we have the game’s illest protagonist …Vergil.
The 2020 video game awards have come and gone and while the focus of this event was deciding what games were the best of that year, many of the announcements were either for newly revealed IP's or games that have had at least one reveal prior. Considering how disappointing last year's VGAs were and considering the state of the world we’re living in now, I’d be lying if I said these reveals did not exceed my expectations.
If you’re a Nintendo fan like I am, 2020 has been a phenomenal year. Whether they’re indies or AAA titles, video games have never been better. I sincerely hope that these games get the awards they deserve at The Game Awards…
With a plethora of games and categories to choose from at this year’s Game Awards, the one category I’m concerned about is the Video Game of the Year V(GOTY). In my opinion, these two “quarantine companions” that millions purchased and were displayed on social media for all to see, were the highlights of the summer and year. Even as I write this, these games are just days/hours away from becoming the best of the best for 2020.
Sony’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales fell short, due to its length of gameplay, but that’s it. Easily a game worthy of becoming a GOAT in the gaming atmosphere, this rapid gameplay timeline frustrated me and left me wondering…’Is this all SONY has to offer for Miles? (Credit to artist for image)
I believed that there were no bad games, only that I wasn’t playing them right. One of the people that helped me realize that games can be poorly made was James Rolfe, AKA The Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN). He’s made an entire career yelling and swearing at games that made his blood boil. Now, things have come full circle, with the AVGN starring in a game collection of his very own….
Motive Studios, under Electronic Arts, has released a game featuring these ship battles titled Star Wars Squadron, that came out on October 2nd. Does the game follow the good side of the force under EA's Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order? Or does it follow the bad side under the initial release of their Battlefronts? Let's hop in our TIE Fighters to find out.
Both DC’s Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad games piqued my interest, but the winner for me was Gotham. One this is for sure, Marvel’s Avengers is definitely in trouble!!!
Gundam is one of the longest running mecha anime and manga franchises in history. With so many different universes, it's no surprise that it had a presence in the video game market over the years. With Maxi Boost On, the latest installment in the video game series, Is it a good investment for Gundam fans?
The video game company, NaughtyDog, has f*cked with my emotions yet again…..
EA Play Live 2020 was disappointing as hell. There’s more explicit words I could use to describe how pissed I was once the stream was over, but let’s keep it PG……
Did my eyes deceive me? Did I see another Spider-Man game?
Yep, Spider-Man was a different color. This Spider-Man was Black. This Spider-Man was none other than Miles Morales; the Spider-Man of 2020; Spider-Verse-Spiderman; the Spider-Man of the new millennium.….
I’m late to the party, but I actually love Roundguard…..Here’s why…
Animal Crossing: New Horizons has absolutely helped to keep me happy in this difficult time, and I truly can’t thank this franchise enough for that, but will I continue to play, even after COVID-19 is behind us?
This Friday @ NYCC2019, my focus was on Gaming. Too many to count, a lot of gaming titles were here to showcase the latest and greatest. I managed to grab a peak at some of the new titles coming out for the 2019-2020 season…..
Kingdom Hearts III is everything I could hope for. Speaking as a fan, being able to play the next chapter in Sora’s saga was extremely fun. The gameplay is captivating and will have you playing for hours. I think everyone should give this game a shot even if they didn’t follow the franchise. The way I see it, after playing Kingdom Hearts III, they’ll want to play ALL the games in the series. Who knows? This game might create an even bigger fandom and with that maybe a new game...
Since 1985, one name has stood high in video games, and endured longer than any of them: Mario. The plumber is so well known that even people who don’t know about video games know who he is!!! How is it that, a plumber, who hops on turtles for a living managed to survive the gaming evolution?…. it’s no exaggeration to say that Mario has had a substantial hand in shaping video games throughout the years, from the ‘80s to the present day….HAPPY MAR10 DAY!!!
When I was growing up, playing games was so much simpler than it is now. You would get the game, play it, and be content you beat it. In my first article, I discussed how the gaming industry uses microtransactions to bring in profits. However, this isn’t their only cash cow. The gaming industry has figured out another way to make themselves more profitable and now, they’re creating different versions of the same game….. (Credit to artist for this image)
